Rock Climbing is certainly about skills. Balance, strength and power, flexibility of movement and endurance is what it takes to make you climb those sheer faces, and challenge yourself constantly to seek new faces to climb. Although every individual has physical limits, very few of us are close to reaching those potentials.
Importantly, climbing is not just about physical skills, which can be developed. It is also about attitude and about overcoming fears by realising them. Climbing forces you to confront your fears and then push your limits by understanding them, to go beyond limitations, which to a large extent you have set yourself. It teaches you to think laterally while attempting to solve a seemingly insurmountable problem. It forces you not to give up. It involves a total commitment and a level of self-motivation that becomes a part of your psyche. It teaches you to plan ahead and yet remain flexible to innovate as you go along. It trains you to have nerves of steel, to remain calm and focused in the most exacting circumstances.
