Rajasthan is famous for its grand palace hotels. Most former rulers have converted their palaces into hotels to maintain their own lifestyles. Under the Heritage Hotel umbrella are included havelis or traditional mansions, forts as well as hunting lodges. Luxury and mid-range accommodation is also available.
The RTDC operated network of hotels offers budget and mid-range
accommodation, which is good value for money, but does not match the
palaces in hospitality and service. The RTDC has an extensive network
through the state.
The paying guesthouse scheme is an innovative idea which has been
introduced and regularised by Rajasthan Tourism. It provides international tourists the opportunity to stay with an Indian family and get a real feel of the culture of the place. Administered by the RTDC and operational in most major towns, this provides primarily budget and shoe-string accommodation.
