Day3 : Gangtok- Chungthang- Lachung– 116 kms/ 4-5 hrs
A fascinating drive to Lachung. We stop briefly en route at Chungthang which is at the confluence of Lachen and Lachung valleys. Legend has it that Chungthang was blessed by Guru Rinpoche because of which Paddy is said to thrive at this point only and nowhere else in Sikkim.
Lachen and Lachung are the most beautiful valleys of Sikkim region. A day’s rest amidst beautiful surroundings at either one of these is highly recommended.
Day 4: Lachung- Lachen- 48 kms/ 2 hrs
Lachen is a small tribal village ruled by the Dzumsa. The main site to visit is the Lachen monastery. A number of villagers are still yak herders and keep migrating. Day at leisure in Lachen. Stay in a guest house.
Day 5: Lachen- Gurudongmar Lake- Lachen- 120 kms/ 5 hrs
A visit to Gurudongmar Lake is a must while in Sikkim. It is a full day excursion through one of the most picturesque drives.
Evening at leisure in guest house in Lachen.
Day 6: Lachen- Yuksom- 239 kms/ 9-10 hrs
Drive to Yuksom- the ancient capital of Sikkim via Samdoupche; the holy spot where the tallest statue of Guru Rinpoche has been built. Reach Yuksom and check into the guest house.
Yuksom is a scenic spot set amidst the backdrop of the Himalayas. It is a historical place, for in 1641 Buddhism was introduced here.
Day 7: Yuksom- Pemayangtse- 32 kms/ 1.5 hrs
Visit the Khecheopalri Lake after breakfast. Afterwards, drive to Pemayangtse to see Rabdantse ruins - the second capital of Sikkim & Pemayangtse Monastery. Night stay in a guest house.
Day 8: Pemayangtse- New Jalpaiguri
Drive back to New Jalpaiguri/ Bagdogra to fly back home.
