Jamshedpur: Something Special in Jharkhand

Alison Wallwork, a 16 year old U.K. born girl shares her love of this township in Jharkhand, earlier in Bihar, rarely written about by travellers in the sub-continent.

Jamshedpur: not much talked about, not particularly well known, and yet, it feels even better than home. Jamshedpur is definitely one of the cleanest and most scenic towns in this part of India. No matter what part of the world you are from, something about the town, surrounded by beautiful verdant green, touches you and makes you instantly feel as though you are surely missing out on something by not living there. While traditional culture is richly maintained here, at the same time, modern Western comforts are easily available.

Aged 11 years, I dreaded my first visit to Jamshedpur, unsure of what to expect. Now, at 16 years of age, I'm begging my parents to go and settle down in Jamshedpur. Why Jamshedpur, you ask? Simply because it is a beautiful, friendly place.

There is always something to do, no matter what age you are. Perhaps you could go to the spectacular Jubilee Park, where you can visit the amusement park, zoo, or even go fishing. When you get tired, just chill out by the river side and grab a bite to eat. The fun you can have there is endless. If you're lucky to stay until dusk, you'll catch a glimpse of the magnificent water fountains which are picturesquely lit up in many different colours at night. The perfect setting for a romantic evening.

If that's not your thing, maybe a day out shopping on Bistupur Main Road with its assortment of shops from pharmacies to the latest sports stores. A visit to the market place, with its hustle, bustle and beckoning shop owners will make you know for sure that you are in India.

Being 16, born in London, U.K and a girl, I certainly do surprise almost everyone when I tell them that I wish to live in Jamshedpur. That must mean something: it's pure MAGIC and I love it!!

At night time, when there is absolutely nothing to do, why not jump into an auto rickshaw and head down to the nearest place where you can taste all kinds of chaat, golgapas and chow. And when you get there don't miss the men carrying sticks on their backs, earning a living by selling toys and balloons to small children. Just absorb the culture as you pass through.

Then you can stay at a splendid hotel like The Boulevard Hotel where you can be assured you will get a good nights rest and will be looked after well by the caring staff there, who will make the next day one to look forward to.

Well, these are my experiences of Jamshedpur. Obviously opinions vary. Being 16, born in London, U.K and a girl, I certainly do surprise almost everyone when I tell them that I wish to live in Jamshedpur. That must mean something: it's pure MAGIC and I love it!!
