Known for their warmth, hospitality and intellectual liberalism, Bengalis are enthusiastic and intrepid travellers, who enjoy food, 'addas' or chats and the pursuit of intellectual and cultural activities. Religious festivities form an integral part of the annual calendar, with all major Hindu deities, such as Kali and Durga, being incarnations of Shakti. They take pride in their heritage and are particularly proud of the sons of Bengal: Rabindranth Tagore, Satyajit Ray and Amarthya Sen.
